Burnside Cottage is situated in the heart of the community in the village of Freuchie in Fife, five miles from Glenrothes. The location of the house provides a natural avenue for the children/ young people who stay with us to engage fully in the local community.
The house has four bedrooms, one of which has en-suite facilities. It provides accommodation for three children/ young people, with each bedroom being decorated to the child’s/ young person’s own taste. In addition to the bedrooms, the house has a modern open-plan kitchen/ dining area/ lounge which lends itself to creating a relaxed atmosphere. A computer area has also been set out and equipped for the children/ young people to use and has proved popular. An enclosed gravel garden accessed through french doors from the living room adds another valuable dimension to the house.
Care of the children/ young people is provided by a well-trained team made up of seven full-time care workers, one cook and one domestic member of staff. They are supported by a team of managers who offer 24 hour support to the team.
At Burnside Cottage, we encourage children/ young people to participate in community activities such as the local gala, local groups and youth club. We see integration into the local community as an important part of children/ young people’s social development. Good relationships have been established with local schools and this is invaluable in supporting our children/ young people in their educational achievements.
Children/ young people are also encouraged to take up new skills and interests, including learning to sail with the Ocean Youth Trust.
